NOTE One kid, a BU3, was killed in Iraq as a result of mis-handling one of these 30mm rounds. They can be found anywhere, and look similar to a carbide-tipped ripper tooth on a trencher. We found one that somehow wound up on a 50 Ton lowboy trailer, and thinking it was in fact a ripper tooth, it was picked up and examined.
An EO1 spotted it, and recognizing it for what it was, gave it carefully to our GM2 for disposal.
The GM2 tossed it into an EOD det hole where it exploded on impact. Needless to say, if you see something similar while traipsing ’round the sandbox, don’t friggin touch.
